When my friend Margreet told me about this special gathering that was to take place in Arizona,
The Return of the Ancestors Gathering, I felt immediately that I had to be there. Sometimes you do not know why, but you feel that you have to and this was one of these times. We live in the Netherlands and we are involved in spiritual activities, thru which we develop ourselves and try to stay open and alert to sensing to what our souls are saying to us. This is of course nothing new, it is being done all over the world, but it can be a lonely road sometimes. The gathering was calling for souls to come together and share and maybe that is why we wanted to be there. We went with open hearts and the willingness to share our stories.
Maya prophecies
The fact that this gathering was inspired by the Maya prophecies and called for the presence of elders of several native American tribes, south American tribes and other indigenous tribes, made this gathering even more special. I felt that this gathering would energetically have a profound effect on the state of our earth and on getting to the turning point of
2012. Not only would this gathering be needed to get there, but many more after this one. The gathering of souls on a heart level is like drops of water coming together to create a beautiful waterfall. The beauty of this waterfall will attract more souls to join and create waves of love that will spread over the world.
Sunrise
The program of the gathering was for 10 days, between
April 18 and April 28, during which we would be in different places to do ceremonies and hold circles. We could only do the last five days of the program, so our first day was on April 24 and we attended a sunrise ceremony at the Grand Canyon. What a great way to start, we had never been to the Grand Canyon before and now we were surrounded by like minded souls and the sounds of drums while the sun was rising over the Grand Canyon. I felt such a deep connection to Mother Earth that tears were running down my face. How could anyone not see the beauty of our world? It is beyond my imagination. Somebody tapped me on the shoulder and I turned around to my neighbour. I saw the old and wise face of a Maya Indian with smiling eyes and he held out his arms to hug me. We hugged and I knew he must have felt my moment of connection. No words were needed, just our intuitive knowing.
Unconditional
I was travelling with a group for those 5 days and I had never met any of the people in the group before. They came from different parts of the world: Columbia, Quebec, France, Germany, Italy, UK, Belgium, Mexico, Australia, the US and probably one or two other countries. When our lovely tour guide, Marce, would inform us of something in English, it was repeated in two other languages: Spanish and French. What an international happening, I loved it. They were very welcoming and kind and there was an unconditional acceptance of everybody, so I felt right at home. On this first day for me, it became clear that the organization of the Gathering was very flexible, to say the least. There were last minute changes in the program, or there was no program, so that people were confused what to do next. Fortunately we ended up were we needed to be, so it was a challenge to not let these things get to you, as it did with some people. I think it all went as it was supposed to.
The forgotten people
The next day we were guests of the Navaho in Tuba City, a desolate place: very dry land, no green and a lot of dust. I understood why they call themselves The Forgotten People, because it looked like they were living on the end of the earth. In the speeches of some Navaho people it was sometimes so sad to hear how they are being treated by the federal government: they have to fight for everything and especially for their rights to build on the land they live or to claim any financial gain from big companies who get profits from mining their land. I believe that the US has never really understood the ways of this tribe and other Native American tribes. They tried to mould them in their own image, but that does not work as they are people with their own values and culture. They are nature people and they are the guardians of the earth. They are the ones who we need to show us how we can live on the earth without damaging her. The Navaho, who welcomed us, said they appreciated our coming very much and they had prepared for many weeks for our coming. I hope we showed them that we have not forgotten them and we never will.
A Drunvalo Day
The next day we were supposed to visit the Hopi, but they changed their minds for whatever reason and we were left without a program for that day. In the morning we went back to Tuba City to watch the
Condor Dance, but by the time we got there we had missed that. There was a fierce wind blowing sand hard on us. Not a very good beginning of the day, but it became much better when we heard that our group was invited by
Drunvalo Melchiezedek to join him in Sedona for an afternoon the next day. We met up with him at Boynton Canyon and he took us in the canyon and talked for more than an hour about many things. He talked about the Hopi and why they were saying no to the gathering. He talked about the changes that are coming soon and that it is important to stay connected to the heart. We ended with a song, which was composed by our singer Cole:
where there is love, you will find me! We hugged, we cried, we laughed and the connection with each other was deep: Thank you Drunvalo for that very special afternoon.
Speeches and ceremony
The last two days of the program were held at the Dead Horse Ranch National Park in Cottonwood. Speeches were made by the elders on the first of these days
Don Alejandro Cirilo Perez Oxlaj, the Maya elder who initiated this gathering said:
"You are the children of the sun! You are the survivors, illness will come, but we will survive them. I was touched by the Navahos in the way how they expressed their emotions about their living conditions. We can not help them. Only the creator can bring solutions. We are the messengers of peace and we have been working hard to keep Mother Earth green. We are her children and it is the native people who really take care of her. "
After his speech the other Maya elders did a ceremony for the Pacha Mama (Earth Mother). They gave an offering to the mountain gods of San Francisco and Arizona and had representatives of Hopi and other tribes throw the offerings in the fire. The gods were called to, and mother earth was honored. The whole ceremony was filled with deep respect and love. The final words were:
Happiness is in the heart! Share the science of consciousness. After that all the elders stood in a circle and went twice around the fire. All the participants were holding hands and when it was over, everybody cried and embraced each other. I was embracing people I never met before, but it was great. I do not have to know them, they are like me and that is more than enough for me.
Balance
On the final day, Grandmother Margarita makes her speech. She is one of the Elders and lives in Mexico. She works with the feminine energy and is an advocate for women. She had already threatened to walk out of the Gathering on the third day, if the balance between men and women would stay in favor of the men. She was of the opinion that the men dominated the gathering and was not pleased with this. When she started her talk, she did say something about the balance still not being as it should be. I agreed with her, it was something I felt on the first day that I was at the Gathering. Something was missing and I also felt that there was no opportunity for me and others who had come from far away, to really share their stories and wisdom. Feminine energy is all about being open to everything and everybody: to celebrate life, it is the receiving power. This gathering is supposed to be about balance, I was not feeling that. For me this is a reflection of what is happening in the world today. This is what we would like to change.
New Gathering
Still, I did not regret being at the gathering, because it showed me how people from all different backgrounds can come together in love. That is why I call it the gathering of the hearts. I wish that our world leaders could have been there to watch this and learn. I did most of my sharing with my group, my new soul family, and I am very grateful for that. I have no regrets, just more love to share. I feel inspired to spread this around and I have realized how important it is to have more of these gatherings in the world. We will hold a gathering next year in the Netherlands, we call it
Earth Awareness Day. You are all invited to come!
