How does Karma work? What does it mean? Does it mean you reap what you sow?
The idea that you reap what you sow actually describes consequences. Consequences are a part of Karma, but they do not define the entire Karmic cycle. Karma is essentially a law that was put in place on Planet Earth by humans before humanity existed. It operates just like a physical law, but it works to transcend physicality.
The law of Karma is what enables human beings to carry energy from one lifetime to another. It enables you to carry unresolved issues or lessons or any sort of project you have embarked on, including the lessons and experiences from one lifetime onto another. Karma is an extension of the law that is part of your physics. It is part of the dynamic that translates matter into energy and energy back into matter. What Karma does is enable you to put a tag on certain experiences and the energies that are formed around them. That tag enables you to access those energies later on. The law of Karma specifically is what enables people to transcend time or to transcend death in a sense and carry things from one lifetime to another. It is like a very metaphysical filing system. It is not a filing system because Karma is not meant to store things. Karma is set up so that you can clear things, so that you can carry things forward in order to resolve them. That reason that need was foreseen early because part of the human contract for every human being - it is part of the contract of this world, which is that if you come into this world, whatever consequences you create, you need to bring back into balance before you leave this world permanently.
How that gets done is really broad.
Some human beings only live one lifetime. They come here, they live their lifetime, they resolve all they began before they end their lifetime and then they are done. Some human beings only live one lifetime but then if they have left some things unresolved, they may come back as an animal or Spirit Guide in order to work with Karma. Karma does not have to be brought into balance through a human lifetime, but it does need to be brought into balance in this world before you can exit this world permanently. Karma is an intrinsic part of the process of reincarnation because Karma exists purely to allow for and give meaning to reincarnation. Karmic cycles do not always work the way that some paradigms have outlined them to work. Not all human beings opt for the Karmic cycle, meaning that some human beings choose to live just a few lifetimes here or there. They are still responsible for their Karma, but they do not step into a deep Karmic cycle by which they have to continue to relive things over and over again until they are perfected. Other human beings do decide to live through those life cycles, choosing one or two primary themes and investigating those themes so thoroughly because they lock into what you call a Karmic cycle with that theme. They have to live out every different angle of that theme before they can fully understand it, master it and let it go. Some of you are beholden to the idea of Karmic cycles; others of you are not.
Every single one of you is beholden to the natural process of consequence. Consequence occurs in this world primarily because time exists here. When you do something, think something or say something, there is always a consequence. If you refuse to do something, think something or say something, there is also a consequence. In this world, you can never avoid consequences -- it is impossible. Some of you really get wrapped up in deciding if they are positive or negative, likable or unlikable consequences, but it does not change the fact that there are consequences for everything that does or does not occur in this world. All of you are beholden to that. It is part of living in the time space continuum in a physical body.
The Keepers say that souls always choose when they are going to die and to leave this world. Is this true even in the case of murders?
Yes.
Is murder part of an agreement between those two human beings?
Yes. Everything that occurs between two beings occurs by Divine agreement of their souls. This can be one of the most difficult ideas for human beings to embrace, for the human perspective, always includes compassion, empathy and sensitivity. No matter how shut down you may think you are or someone else is, every human being feels suffering at the very idea of another human being's suffering. Therefore, it is almost an automatic process that you project your feelings and perceptions onto the experience of another and therefore find it very difficult to imagine that a soul of someone who has been killed in this lifetime would have agreed to be killed. It is very difficult to understand for human beings, but it is true that everything that occurs between human beings occurs by Divine agreement. In other words, every human being is led by and protected by his or her own Higher Self. Their highest part of their soul that they can see everything, that understands everything and that is constantly in communication with the soul of every being you come into contact with. The truth is, this is the only perspective by which you can really grasp the true power and potential of human beings. It is impossible to take full accountability for you lives if you do not in one way or another imagine and accept the idea that everything that happens, happens for a reason in your life. That there is some version of you that can be completely trusted to make sense of whatever tragedy occurs in your life or in the lives of others.
Some of you imagine that this Higher Self is God; some of you imagine that this Higher Self is a particular spirit or spirit guide. All these are accurate. Some of you simply trust in the physical harmony of the universe. All these things are the same thing with different names. This can be accurate as well. There is a higher version of you that is in complete control and complete agreement with everything that happens to you. This is the only way that this world can make sense with all of the suffering that occurs here. While it is hard to accept and it causes a great deal of heartbreak, it is true that even in the case of a murder, it only occurs through the Divine soul agreement between those two beings. As a human being, you are not meant to understand it. You are not meant to make sense of these kinds of acts. You are meant to allow your hearts to break, to find a space for larger love within you. Some of you find space for forgiveness; some of you find space for some kind of compassion or understanding. But do not seek to understand this completely theoretically because as long as you are a human from a human perspective, you are meant to feel the suffering that comes when these events occur. It is part of your agreement. It is part of what you came here for.
What Karma is involved with fatal accidents or fatal illnesses? Do these souls choose to die in that particular way because it is for their highest good?
Yes. Your human mind does not decide when you will be born and when you will die; your Higher Self decides. If your human mind were to decide these things, of course most of you would decide never to be born because it is quite difficult to move from being in the womb to out into the atmosphere into a world full of confused human beings who will inevitably hurt you. Most of you would choose not to be born in the first place, but then once you were here you would get so attached to being here that you would choose never to die and instead would just suffer more and more by aging indefinitely. Of course, your Higher Self can see a much bigger picture. Your Higher Self can see where you were and all that is possible for you before this lifetime. Your Higher Self can see and understand exactly how this lifetime will lead to the next. It will lead you exactly to where you need to be in the Universe. Your Higher Self is aware that everything is made of Light and Love. Everything you have done in this world makes sense in the grander scheme of things and the instant that you do pass away, whether it be through illness, an accident or any other experience, you immediately remember all of your Higher Self's perspectives. You immediately return to the true version of you that can see everything, that remembers who you were before this lifetime and can see how small this lifetime is in the grand scheme of your Soul's existence. Each of you has a very good reason to die and each of you has times in your life when it would be beneficial for you to die.
You are constantly renegotiating your contracts. Very few of you decide from birth when your death will occur. Most of you have windows of opportunity; times when it would make sense for you and those around you to exit this plane. You decide at a higher level in conference and counsel with your Spirit Guides and with the Higher Selves of those who are in your life when it will work best, when it will provide the greatest benefit for each of you to go through the experience of your passing away. This is true for all of your friends and loved ones. It gives an even greater sense of the trustworthiness of the human experience. There is always a reason from a higher perspective for everything that happens here. It gives you further space for accountability. You can no longer imagine that the Universe has victimized you if a loved one has been killed in an accident. Instead you must imagine that your Higher Self had a Divine reason to agree to that experience. To agree to be close enough to that person to have your heart break when they die, to agree on their timing for leaving. All of you decide together and you find the opportunities that will work best for everyone. (October 2009)
