Unique occasions for you and your family by Rev Heather Andrews-Dobbs
Heather is an inter-denominational minister based in London and she is available for weddings, naming ceremonies, anniversaries and funeral services. She specialises in wedding and union blessings and has experience of working alongside the two individuals to support them in creating an enjoyable and memorable occasion as they commit their lives to each other in wisdom and love. There are a huge choice of venues that Heather can recommend to suit every purse and it is possible to use a private or public space such as a home, restaurant reception or country house location. Outdoor ceremonies are also possible, such as a park, forest or hilltop setting. It is also possible to create an inspirational fairytale or angelic ceremony, suitable for teenage girls or ‘Katie Price’ style event.
Heather trained with many specialists for five years, both in the UK and abroad and in 1995 was ordained as the UK’s first New Thought minister. She has won international inspiration awards and is qualified to support, guide and counsel. Heather says “These days there are so many faiths, cultures and traditions at any ceremony that a generic form of spirituality is often preferred. Those with unique needs or those embarking on second marriages, often decide on an individualised ‘self-styled’ ceremony. An individualised anniversary blessing, for instance, re-commits to marriage vows, after the birth of children, on a special anniversary such as 5, 10 or 20 years when family and friends can be invited to join in. The celebration can involve the couple’s acknowledgement of their mutual journey together, any difficult times, and special times. It is delightful for children and loved ones to witness the bond of love, humour and respect that can continue to fuel a relationship sometimes many years after marriage”.
A New Thought naming ceremony is frequently chosen by a couple who do not want to impose their religious beliefs on their child. They prefer that their child makes their own religious decisions later in life when all possibilities have been explored or assessed. A naming ceremony honours the uniqueness of the baby. The child is already a blessing to the parents and the community by its birth into the world. Parents or guardians can choose inspirational verse, music or reading that is selected to capture the ‘essence’ and beauty of the child. Those who attend may make commitments to become mentors and guardians for the child and special involvement in the ceremony can be devised for them.
Heather can also officiate at specially designed funeral services. The ‘New Thought’ style service is a ‘celebration of life’ that is both respectful of the departed but also recognises the loss to the living that is felt when a loved one dies.
Heather’s fees are dependent upon planning (which sometimes needs to take place with many people who are part of the ceremony), the duration of the ceremony and the location. Heather is available to discuss arrangements and provide a full quotation.
