Mind Body Spirit Fairs have been around for a while now, but attendance at these events has noticeably dropped. I am wondering why.
The larger events are often expensive for exhibitors, which makes it very difficult to actually make attending worthwhile. if you live in the area of the event, then after show sales may help, but many exhibitors travel far and wide to attend, so travelling costs, accommodation, exhibition fees all mount up.
I attended an event at Charter Hall this month, and attendance was estimated by the organiser to be 5000 people, but the reality of around 400 over the 2 days was a massive let down.
Even the smaller community events have seen a drop in attendance.
Do Mind Body Spirit events draw people in now a days? obviously not, so what can we do about this as organisers and exhibitors?
I think organisers need to make their events more appealing to a wider audience of exhibitors, so maybe having more retail stalls, which include accessories, beauty products, crafts, artisans, as well as the typical reflexology, massage, psychics and mediums.
What can organisers offer to exhibitors to encourage them to attend their events?
Typically these events are run at weekends during the day, so would being open in the evening be of more benefit?
What about workshops and demonstrations etc? these are generally free at the smaller events, but you have to pay to get in to most at the bigger events. Do these workshops etc actually draw people in? what kind of thing are people wanting to attend?
The massive thing about these events, big or small, is actually getting the public to attend, and advertising is not cheap. There is obviously a certain amount that can be done free, such as web advertising with Spirit Guides Network, Merlins Magic, Social Networks, Mailing lists and leaflet drops. Placing banners, printing of posters, and then finding places willing to display the posters can be a bit of a mission, so what can we do to make things more cost effective, and reach even more people?
I wonder if the organisers should state what advertising they will do, and then request that exhibitors take on some responsibility for advertising the event. This might also help to keep advertising costs down for the organisers, and that saving can be passed on to the exhibitors. Most people now use facebook or twitter, and this can be a great way of advertising events, but make sure you ask people to share your events on their walls too. Most of us have friends all over the place, and so its a great way to reach a wider audience and raise awareness of the event.
Should MBS fairs be re-branded? After all, they used to be called Psychic Fairs, and gradually evolved in to MBS fairs.
I would really love to get your views and opinions, and ideas about the future of MBS events, so please do post your comments, and lets start getting this right, for the organisers, the exhibitors and the visitors.
Many thanks,
