A Brief Guide to Healing by Isa. A. Northage (continued)
The Healing Guides
The Guide is a person living in the spheres of the world of spirit who supplies the healing power and is generally known as a healing guide, for although all their psychic faculties are very much more advanced than our own, these particular guides specialize in healing. Like medical men on earth, they may have other qualities and gifts, but healing is their outstanding speciality. They are usually discarnate spirits of Indians [East or West] or Chinese [or Celtic, Gaelic, Polynesian or African], because these races are well known to be the most psychic and having lived longer [historically on earth] they are more experienced. Another reason is that they are naturally more developed in the science of human nature and have a far greater understanding and intelligence than most other races. (They originate from the older tribes of mankind).
As already stated, healing power is supplied through the guide, but the force of the power depends upon the light, or the state of progression of the guide. This again depends upon the medium's state of progress.
The strength of the power from the guide depends upon the guide's state of progress, as the higher the spiritual sphere from which he or she comes, the finer the substance of the spiritual body; the finer the substance, the higher the vibration, for healing power is vibration. This is known as the light of the guide. The medium naturally offers a certain amount of resistance to the guide's power, as it has to flow through the body in a similar way to which a condenser offers resistance to electricity. It will be understood then that the light or state of progression of the medium will determine how much resistance is offered to the healing power. If the light is powerful, the resistance will be very much lessened, and likewise if the light is dim (progression low), the resistance will be great and the power weak. [Similarly, any sceptical enquirer present at a seance or undertaking psychical research presents a huge resistance which often prevents anything useful happening. R.R.]
To increase their light then is, or should be, the aim and desire of the medium, so as to heal well, powerfully and successfully. This is what the Master meant when he said: 'Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.'
Guides vary in intelligence and spirituality just as do people on earth. The guide's instrument is the medium, and if the latter is not very advanced in these qualities, the more spiritually advanced guides would not work through him or her because they could not achieve any success. Therefore, the mental and spiritual progress of the medium determines the quality of the guide. Guides usually have a great regard for their mediums, who should always respect their guides, and treat them as their best friends and constant companions, for by so doing a very strong attachment and comradeship is formed. Often a guide can influence the medium to greatly increase his spiritual progress and by so doing advances his own. This is often done between people on earth, for what you sow, so you reap.
The life-energy that pulsates from the body of the guide is a much higher vibration than that which comes from a physical body, for that of the guide is of a finer substance and it is this high vibration which energises the physical part of the medium, and streams from him or her as healing power. The method the guides adopt to charge the medium with power varies according to physique and mentality. Some are able to withdraw the spirit of the medium from his body and to occupy it themselves, but comparatively few adopt this method (known as trance control), because it is a very delicate and difficult operation. The most popular method used by guides is to stand just behind or at the side of the medium and the vibrations charge or energize the aura of the medium so intensely that everything she touches gathers a power that could not possibly come from a normal make-up. The medium is perfectly conscious of this power within. Its effect often overcomes the medium as though she were doped, but she can learn to control this effect on her senses if she wishes. It is a form of mental control which varies according to how far the medium lets herself go. Additionally, the developed medium not only feels the presence of the guide by the power, but the guide is also able to talk to his medium by impressing her brain with his thoughts which he expresses to the medium either by what is known as mental clairvoyance or clairaudience, according to the development of the medium. Even if a medium is clairvoyant, he or she seldom sees the guide because she is usually too close to be seen, but the characteristics of the guide will be so keenly sensed that they work together as one and the same person.
It should always be remembered that the guides are human beings like ourselves and have their likes and dislikes, also their opinions, and each differs in character and personality as we do. Many people seem to think that our guides have nothing else to do but remain always at the beck and call of the medium through whom they work. This is quite wrong, for guides have their work to do in the spirit world just as we on earth; the only difference is that while we generally work to get money for our necessities, they work because they want to, and once they start on any particular mission, they never leave it until it is accomplished, however many years it may take.
Instances have been known when a guide, being otherwise engaged has left his medium to treat a patient alone. This has only been when the patient is not seriously afflicted, and the medium has a sufficient store of power to meet the demand. This has been my own experience on more than one occasion. This may appear rather strange to some people, but in fact it is quite simple. When a medium is healing continually through having so much power passed through him or her, a certain amount of power is absorbed by the aura. It is similar to a transformer, or fixed condenser in a wireless set or radio. Through so much electricity passing through these compoonent parts, they remain partly charged for a long time after the set has been switched off. In like manner, if the guide considers it to be satisfactory, a medium can treat slight cases occasionally, by the power contained in the aura, without the guide attending in person. However, the guide is always at hand when needed.
[to be continued].
Here is another account of healing, taken from The Two Worlds magazine for June 24th, 1949.
I have known Mrs. Isa Northage for some years and when I was living in Nottingham during 1942 and 1942 I had the pleasure and the privilege of attending her circles and her healing services.
Mrs. Isa Northage is one of the most spiritual mediums I have known in these last 25 years, and also one of the most developed instruments I have seen or heard. You only have to enter her home to feel the presence of Spirit.
The following case, although of small importance, is of interest.
One day during 1941 my hairdresser pointed out to me that I was losing my hair rapidly in one place. He declared it to be an alopecia patch and advised me to consult a chemist of Nottingham who had made a speciality of this kind of complaint. The latter gave me a bottle to rub into the hair, but told me that he had not the proper ingredients as some of the oils came from France and that I should consult a doctor, as my trouble was probably due to my general condition. The doctor informed me that I was going bald and there was little he could do. As he himself was as bald as a billiard ball, he treated te matter vcry lightly and dismissed me! The patch was now the size of a half-crown, completely denuded of hair.
The following week my wife and I attended a sitting at Mrs. Isa Northage's Sanctuary at Bulwell. The medium was controlled by Dr. Reynolds who, when the healing was finished, asked if anyone else needed help. My wife and I were sitting right at the back of the room and my wife whispered to me:- Ask him about your hair!
I was whispering back that it was too trivial when Dr. Reynolds spoke and said: Have you any trouble, Serin? I then told him what I was worried about and Dr. Reynolds said: All right, I shall see what I can do. Tonight you may wake up and see a blue flash. You will then know I have been with you.
Effectively at about midnight that night I woke up suddenly and observed what was like a parting blue light.
A week later there were short stubs of hair showing on my alopecia patch. A week later again the patch had shrunk to the size of a shilling piece and a fortnight after that my hair was completely restored and has been ever since.
It is nothing unusual, when sitting in Mrs. Isa Northage's house, to hear the gramophone playing by itself on the floor above and to hear the record turn over, and that when no one is in the house excepting the people with us, on the ground floor.
I would also like to say that the only materialisation seance I have had with Mrs. Northage impressed me so much that I am certain she must be one of the very best physical mediums of modern times. To see entities build up from the floor and later disappear through the floor would convince the most sceptical observer.
But above all, it is the spirituality of Mrs. Northage which is her outstanding quality.
