Rowan
In 2004 my son Rowan was diagnosed with Autism. I found my way into his world through a horse - Betsy. This summer, 2007, Rowan and I will journey across Mongolia, the land of the horse, raising awareness for autism, making a movie and raising funds to put in a dedicated Autism Resource Center in Austin Texas, where autism rates have spiked by 600% in the past 15 years. We will ride from healer to healer, staying with traditional shamans, who will work on Rowan, journeying across the Great Steppe up to where Siberia kisses the north of Mongolia at Lake Hovsgvol - the land of the reindeer herders. An adventure that never would have come to me, had Rowan not been diagnosed with Autism.
