Kia ora and welcome. It’s lovely that you’ve dropped in for a chat today. I’ve just had my book, An Olympic Challenge, published and I’d like to talk of te korero ki te pukapuka – the story of the book … well, some of it anyway!
The book was inspired by many things and the four main ones are:
Firstly, the invention of a free-energy machine by a New Zealander, Robert Adams. He had showed me the machine and had asked that I publish the book he was writing about it. Shortly after that, he died and his manuscript, his plans and his machine disappeared. Actually, during his life he almost disappeared, thanks to the three attempts on his life by New Zealand’s Secret Intelligence Service.
The second inspiration for the book was that I worked for a London bank and witnessed and heard about the gross deceptions the bankers and politicians have been playing on a gullible and compliant public … you and me.
The third inspiration was having to commute into London to run corporate training seminars for the bank. Coming from the exquisitely beautiful expanses of New Zealand to the squalid, silent, soulless misery of the compliant cows commuting to the daily slaughter of their spirits for the enrichment of the gods of avarice … I was shocked and still am that these people do it twice a day for their entire working lives. No one but no one enjoys that kind of life, that kind of misery, and everyone I talked to, absolutely everyone, believed there was no way out of that twice-daily self-emasculation. There is a way out. There is always a way out and I wanted to write a book to show people there is, indeed, a way out.
The fourth inspiration is A Course in Miracles, a pcycho-spiritual course that Anna and I started doing in 2005. It has transformed our relationship, it has transformed my life and it shows us a way through the constant and pervading insanity that is the world we live in. To complete that transformation is an Olympic challenge for anyone and one that’s worth all the gold in the world.
The book is a rattling good yarn peppered with banking and police corruption, a mix of interesting Maori, Pakistani, English and Scottish characters, all bound up in a story of hope for everyone of us.
