Commander Riker: What I need is to get out of this cell… You’ve controlled my every move; you told me what to eat, what to think, what to say. And when I show a glimmer of independent thought, you strap me down, inject me with drugs and call it a ‘treatment’.
Lt. Commander Data: You’re becoming agitated.
Commander Riker: You bet I’m agitated! I may be surrounded by insanity, but I am not insane. And nothing you or anyone else can say will change that.
(From Star Trek:The Next Generation, 'Frame of Mind')
Question: What you've been promoting could potentially persuade someone to abandon their friends and family, and live a life of solitude. But is that truly what you are saying, when you speak of ceasing to participate in the lie; in this insanity we call life?
JS: No one can be persuaded to walk the path until they are ready to walk the path. Even then, other influences may cause them to deviate from it, and return to the familiar comfort of the lie; a lie which they pay for with their own freedom – their own infinite freedom.
Needless to say, we have all invested in the lie to some extent, and I would ask anyone hearing or reading these words to reflect upon what aspects of the lie they personally buy into – and why?
“Imagination is the real and eternal world, of which this vegetable universe is but a faint shadow.” – William Blake
Suppose, for a moment, that you could meet your past selves along with your future selves, in the flesh, in the same room. How big do you estimate that room would have to be? And would there truly be many of you present, or just the one? What is it, actually, that divides the ‘you’ of the present from the ‘yous’ of the past and the ‘yous’ of the future? And in answering that question, do you not only understand what it is that divides ‘you’ from yourself, but also ‘you’ from everyone else, and everyone else from each other? Doesn’t answering that question imply that the space required, to accommodate all of your various selves, would actually need to be as large as an ever-expanding universe? …Or, equally, that a telephone box would be more than sufficient?
“I can’t judge any of you. I have no malice against you and no ribbons for you. But I think that it is high time that you all start looking at yourselves, and judging the lie that you live in.” – Charles Manson
Every night we enter the real world, but what can it reflect to us, but our own delusions? Indeed, what can this earthly illusion reflect to us, but our own deluded self?
Here, then, is an exercise for you: Buy a replica phaser and wear it daily; thoroughly familiarise yourself with it. It doesn’t matter that it’s not ‘real’. You’ve seen how it functions on television, and what it can do. That’s more than sufficient for the imaginal realm.
Now, take the phaser with you into your nightly excursions, set it to kill, and open fire on everyone you encounter, without exception. Even if the Almighty himself appears to you and says, “I am the Lord your God, and you must worship me,” you should open fire, and continue on.
Finally, when you have destroyed every illusion and every lie; when you have removed every layer of every onion, and every reflection of every layer of every onion – you should bravely turn the phaser upon yourself… and fire. Only then can it be said that you have withdrawn your investment from the lie.
Welcome to the real world!
For I am the one who alone exists,
and I have no one who will judge me.
For many are the pleasant forms which exist in numerous sins,
and incontinencies,
and disgraceful passions,
and fleeting pleasures,
which men embrace until they become sober
and go up to their resting place.
And they will find me there,
and they will live,
and they will not die again.
